Just so it be known, the place for these comments belong in the forums.
I’m responding here only to have the voice heard, and will be repeated in
the forums. Not everyone is involved in the fb, so putting comments like
this should be address in the forums. Regardless if you feel the forums
aren’t read, they are. Just not every time we are ready to respond, and
when we are, we will.
1) The spells themselves - We all know most of the spells are worthless.
They haven't been changed what so ever since like 1992. I think this is
time for a change. (I've submitted numerous ideas on how to effectively
change the spells around and have received zero feedback.)
Spells are being looked at, and are being considered what is needed and
aren’t needed. We understand a lot of the spells are not in use, and we
don’t want them in either. It’s a task we will achieve.
2) Save vs Spell - Pretty worthless. If you re-do the spells, you should
add resistances to an actual "school" of magic. The only thing saves
really protect from is fireballs and a few others. Again, everything else
is worthless to use in pvp.
Vampires don’t really cast spells, so phasing this out isn’t totally out
of the question. Save Vs Spells “in general” is worthless if spells
aren’t part of the combat. Until this is completed or further developed,
not much to comment on this. Keep in note spells are on our radar to be
reduced.
3) Clans - I'm sorry, but you completely fucked clans. No base
disciplines? No true clan eq? Clans used to mean something. Back in the
day, I believe Ventrue, was the best clan to be in. Do you know why?
Because they were able to get all of the best eq in the game, and still
wear their clan eq. At this point, you should honestly just remove clans
and call them guilds, because that's all they are. Clans are essentially
useless.
As far as your comments with clans, it’s true that the disciplines have
been generalized. Though, it would appear that someone is single minded
and only wanting to go after one thing. Who knows, we could be leaning
toward something ourselves? There is a direction that this is going, and
when we discover it, and code it. You will know.
4) Weapons/Stances - No 2-handed weapons? Really? This was a staple of
D&D, and has been implemented in countless MUDs. It's 11/11/2011 people
... Give us 2handers.
Stances, again, haven't changed. Sure, you've probably tweaked them .. But
that's it. Why not throw in some super stances? Catch up to the times!
You grouped up weapons and stances in one category. As far as two handed
weapons go, No, it’s not been considered. Honestly, never thought about
it. I find this a good suggestion. We might visit this in the future.
Yes, it’s 2011, but we are also working with code from 96, so keep that in
mind.
Stances, have been worked with. Though, our focus has been on the overall
over the code conversion, so I can’t say we have had much focus on
“stances” to say. It’s been more like this. With the code overall, we
have added maybe 4 or 5 code changes/fixes for “us”, then added a
bonus/addition to the players.
5) Basic Stats - Str/Int/Wis/Dex/Con ... Why can't we just use what people
are used to because of WoW? Str/Agi/Stam/Int/Spirit - This isn't JUST a
name change. This would be a change to actually make them worth a ****.
Has anyone REALLY noticed a difference between 3 Wisdom and 25? I sure
haven't.
1st off, this isn’t WOW. This game was around way before wow was even
thought of. Secondly, as far as the stats go, they do mean something.
They may not mean as much as you would desire at the moment, but we have
been working on several things. If you are thinking vampire wars
currently is similar to the stock release, I will have to say that you’re
sadly mistaken.
6) Critical Strikes, Defense, and Others - It's pretty sad that a STAPLE
of RPGs is critical strikes, and the only thing that can "crit" is a
******* fireball. Why don't weapons crit? If they do, show that it's a
critical strike. big numbers, and they like to be able to physically see
their growth.
Defense is simple, protection from crit. It's not hard, it's just another
stat to add. Resistances, as above .. Save vs Spell is stupid.
Seems we have a coder amongst us. Someone that truly sees the light on
how it actually works, and all comes together. As I’ve mentioned
previously, the code is being overhauled, so there could be things like
that in the future. Though, we’re not the normal. So stop trying to
compare us with the “normal” thing that you would like to think we are.
7) You hide information for no reason. Why isn't actual damage showed?
It's showed on a lot of muds. As stated above, if weapons crit, SHOW IT.
Why was the actual number removed from the level command? It's stupid.
Just show the damn number like most muds do.
Show it like most muds do? You mean, the ones that don’t exist anymore?
Let’s see, the stats get posted, the easier it is to script things, the
easier it is to bot, the easier it is to make things unfair to people that
are actually playing. Oh wait? WOW already has that! They even have
china gold botters! You can buy gold on ebay. So…… let’s see…. Beyond
the fact that it’s a “mystery” game. I can’t think of any other reason to
explain “WHY” we don’t post the stats! It’s not like there isn’t already
people that have an idea of how it’s played, with several websites with
hints/tips/ and even stat calculaters!.
Quests don't make sense. Why does a 10-point quest card and a 100-point
quest card contain the same items? Doesn't it make sense that if something
is worth 10 points, the items would be EASIER to get? This is actually
very easy to do, as most of the information is already on the mobs.
First off, quest cards now are 100. You are rewarded with 10qp’s per
item, unless you complete the card. All cards are 100qp cards now. In
the future, things may change regarding this, but we are focused on other
things at the moment.
-- This is only 8 things, that if fixed, you would see an increase in
people who try, and stay, on the game. Sure, there's a lot more that needs
to be done, and some is probably more important. But the fact remains that
a lot of this stuff should have been done years ago.
With this being said, you act like this is a business. It’s not. This is
all volunteer work, and things are worked on as people have time to do so.
If you were to pay for such a thing, I could see such complaints being a
valid thing to bring up, but since you have it free at any time you want
to play. It will continue to be in our hands to adjust things and fix
things at our free will when we have the time to do so.

Re: Facebook response
glad this was put on here. thank you helmut.
Re: Facebook response
Not a problem Kurtap. I'm trying to get people to understand that not everyone is on facebook, and they need to talk here. I guess i'm having a hard time getting them to understand that. I'd hate to have to lock down facebook to prevent postings. Sad that some people can not follow the rules. I do not want to get into support issues on facebook, and it seems like the one or two people want to bring that up there. Facebook is not a support place, nor a place to complain. It's a social network to keep in touch. Though, not all people are going to join facebook for that.
sorry... still trying to figure out how to handle this. I know that any action I take i'm going to be fingered the bad guy, once again.

Re: Facebook response
Copying comments over here.
Marc Palmer
I'm sorry, but your responses are very short sided. I'm aware this isn't WOW .. But guess what? Over 50 million people can say at one point in time, they played WoW - How many can say that they played Vampire Wars?
Secondly, you say that showing more information can make more botters? Realistically, who gives a ****? This is a PK mud. Not a "grind until you're bored as **** and then kill someone when you're running out of things to do" mud. If someone wants to bot XP, who cares? People who bot, traditionally suck at PVP.
Also, in regards to showing more information: This would fix big *** bugs, such as hitroll being massively more important than damroll. This would also allow people to actually have some sort of understand wtf things do. Ohh wait, did I just out a bug that you guys have known about for like 6 months? Yes, I did. NO ONE GET DAMROLL - There's no point. Just get 400 hitroll, and you'll kill everyone. Damroll is almost worthless.
The fact is, not only is the code from the early 90s, but the mindset of the admin is too. Gaming isn't the same now that it was in the 90s. Gamers aren't the same that they were back then, either. If you're unwilling, or unable, to change with the times, then you'll slowly die off. And, I hate to admit this, but VW is in the process of just that .. Dying.
David Empson
Hitroll being ungodly in pvp isnt a huge secret (tho anyone who didnt know, knows now). Id like tp point out again, helmut, showing damage isnt going to ruin everything, or create a ton of powergamers (we have those already, remember?). This is one change that would make a lot of people happy, and id also like to point out that if there are any 'stat calculator dmg calculatpr whatever' sites out there they are vastly innacurate. Tens of hours (possibly even hundreds) has been poured into dmg calc by myself and a handful of others, and honestly we arent any closer to a real working dmg forumla than we were when we started. Cmon. Throw us a bone. Just let us see some dmg =\
David Empson Oops i was rly tired when i wrote that. Just woke up and all, u kno how it is at 530am. I meant to say, (tho anyone who doesnt know knows now palmer, u ***)**
chuck.norris + wow = wtf.
Marc Palmer Shrug, the fight code is fubared, and honestly should be completely re-written. To be honest, the whole codebase is. And the archaic thinking of the admin is just adding to the reasons why we don't get new members.
Helmut
I already done stated that he code is being rewritten. I thought I did? Oh, right, last paragram in response to 4.
Marc Palmer
That's great .. But saying, "We're doing it" is of no help. When will you admin learn that saying that means nothing. You share zero information with us. And when it's re-written, it will be 1 line in the help changes (Updated the fight code.), and that's it.
You know what's great about those games we aren't, such as WoW? They release upcoming changes - AND ACTUALLY GIVE DETAIL - on what they are working on. Do yo think World of Warcraft gives a **** that player X knows he has a 40% chance to dodge? No .. Because it doesn't impact them as a support staff what so ever. What's the sweet spot in armor? No one truly knows. How much damage do I do on average? No one really knows. What's my dodge/parry chance? No one truly knows ..
Even in real Dungeons and Dragons you can calculate that with a pencil and some paper. Why the piss can't we do that on VW?
-Helmut
Re: Facebook response
Not much to respond to when your fixing bugs. Though, we have been trying to get better on posting what's been changed. If your looking for code specific's, that is never going to happen. That's great .. But saying, "We're doing it" is of no help. When will you admin learn that saying that means nothing. You share zero information with us. And when it's re-written, it will be 1 line in the help changes (Updated the fight code.), and that's it.

Things that are still missing from the mud
This is a re-post, and slight tweak, from what I posted on Facebook. Since evidently some of you kids are too good to be in the Facebook group, I will re-post it here. Btw, if you're not in the Facebook group, I essentially don't care about you as a player, or a person, but that's a side note. GET IN THE GROUP.
(For the items that are still relevant, I have copied Helmut's response. My points will be in bold. Anything not in bold font is a direct pull off of the FB group from Helmut.)
1) The spells themselves - We all know most of the spells are worthless.

Re: Facebook response
I'd like to point out with sparks wis/int is super important and con i haven't found anything for it yet .
But anyway SVS is pretty useless besides in pk with curse and fireball lost to many fights because of it as is. Spells should be looked at as Helmut says they are being, I just like to think ts hard to do all of this with only two people working on the code atm.

Re: Facebook response
Stats on all muds unless tweaked by coders out of code are set at 25 automatically - standard base.
Truthfully all you guys ever do is biatch about this and biatch about that.
Helmut is right when do you EVER honestly listen to anyone unless it suits your fancy? Open up your eyes and ears and trutfully listen and read.
All we can ever do is give ideas .. if they are looked into than so be it.. if not than move on. I will forever be here even with my age until I am probably old and gray all because it is relaxing to talk, enjoy a little bashing, and the occasional fight.
But still fixing code is not for us to worry about ..... giving ideas is.
The ones that have been biatching lately do not pay for the server .. they pay for nothing, but yet they see the right to biatch about EVERYTHING.
The code needs tweaking.... omg people ... everyone and their mother knows this! Why keep bringing it up and why keep biatching about it? The ideas are there. Must they bring everything they do, say, etc to your attention for approval? Must they do everything to your schedule? Must they jump when you say jump? If so then I seriously think I will permanently leave this game.
Keep giving ideas is all that I can really say but for god's sake quit the biatching because it's not done to your time schedule.
Let them do what they do best people and that is tweak, fix, break .. lol (sorry guys couldn't resist), and tweak some more. This is what they have been doing for 10 years or more.
Helmut, Daitja, Netosia thank you for all you have done, will do and are still doing .... Netosia thank you for all the years ... Helmut thank you for your time, energy and years of service .... Daitja hehe all i can say is just thank you . Thank you Azazel for everything... Thank you Administrators for your service. What else can i say? Good work ladies and gentlemen and please keep it up!
I love it here and will always because it is a relaxing and refreshing part of the day.
btw I CAN AND WILL SAY that I have never and will never play WoW. Will not and have never bought the game. If I want to pay for something I will pay for a server ( or buy my own server) and put my code on that server and play it or help pay for this server IF THE NEED EVER AROSE. I have been known to help with server mainanance before and there are a couple people that can tell you that. I sent $100 to help keep a M.U.D. open for another year because I enjoyed the code and the company.
Now as for my ideas -
Personally, I have yet to figure out why saves were capped at 35 but hey .. wtf ever . It should be used more because the spells are still hitting all the time and not occasionally or intermittently. I will admit one thing with this, it should be the old way where it's more important, but if you are tweaking the important spells and getting rid of the useless ones like reveal .. well than i don't have much to say on it.
Damroll, I will admit, needs to be as important as hitroll.
Enough of my rant. I have been giving enough ranting material to my Congressman so I figured with what's been going on with V.W. that I should rant here as well.
Oh and one last thing. NOT EVERYONE ON THIS FREAKING PLANET HAS FACEBOOK have a little bit of respect for everyones right to speak their mind as well..... Thank you, have a good day, and keep up the fun!

Re: Facebook response
Ya wanna talk about people pregnant dogging, Sami? All people do is *****?
People shared their ideas, so that constitutes bitching to you?
All you do is brown nose, and pathetically so, I might add.
So now that we're all on a level playing field, let this conversation continue.

Re: Facebook response
@Sami - Thanks for derailing the thread with you're nonsensical bullshit. You, like others, have completely misunderstood the entire point of the things I posted, then went on a diatribe about how you're right and I'm wrong. It's short-sighted assclowns like you that make me fear for society, and you're the exact reason I posted this on Facebook. If I wanted to know the opinion of an idiot, I'd listen to Congress.

Seriously sami wtf? All i heard was blah blah i want to make myself feel important by calling everyone else a whiner.
Helmut already is well aware that no one is this thread is 'bitching'. Palmer brought up a number of valid discussion points and we have been throwing them all back and forth over the last 24hrs. Please, get over yourself, and stop derailing this thread. Everyone knows you want to help the mud as much as the next guy (or gal). You are not, by any means, the only player who contributes their time and energy to make this mud a place people want to play, so step down from the soapbox and listen for once. Thanks.

Re: Facebook response
Firstly, that was horrible, many times in this thread here and on facebook we have said we appreciate Helmut for what he is doing, and we can't even begin to imagine the problems that he has. Sure sometimes we are hostile but if Helmut really cared about that and knew that we didn't respect what he was doing he wouldn't post in the forums in that thread.
But onto what I was saying, yes it does suck having a hard cap on a lot of stuff, attributes, max stats but as I understand it is hardcoded into the code. but that said I would love both of these to be raised but I would agree a few slight tweaks in this regard would do wonders.
1. Lets do cap quests, these are sorta like nod just go through the zone and get to the mob at the end to raise a indivicual stat, hell we could even make each one a different area so each of us would have something fun to do after a certain point. It would be much more fun then just saying hey its lifted have fun bashing. Whats a good run between friends anyway.
2. After said run each additional attribute would cost primal and exp to be fair maybe 50/500000, easily attainable and with a clear reward.
3. we understand there has to be a cap, theres no need for someone whos nearing max to run around with 500 strength, so just set it at like 35 and each 5 points they lose the ability to raise and have to go back through the run.
4. Profit.

Re: Things that are still missing from the mud
I'm not on Facebook. If those threads are half as trollish and malicious as the beginning of your post, I don't care to be on Facebook. Thanks for letting me participate here.Palmer wrote:This is a re-post, and slight tweak, from what I posted on Facebook. Since evidently some of you kids are too good to be in the Facebook group, I will re-post it here. Btw, if you're not in the Facebook group, I essentially don't care about you as a player, or a person, but that's a side note. GET IN THE GROUP.
I could go paragraph by paragraph, but Helmut covered the bases from my perspective. Two general points though:
First, the game has seen changes at varying paces for years. We like ideas from players - in fact, many of the changes over the past year have come directly from player suggestions. However, your combination of abrasive language (this is worthless, you completely fucked this or that, these are useless, all the sarcasm, etc.) and hyperbole to the point of just being plain wrong about several things makes it difficult to take what you're saying at face value. If I didn't know better, your post would lead me to believe this was some broken shell of a game. Which leads me to my second point...
You just seem terribly confused about what's going on here.
For the record, this is a text-based online game that was mostly developed between 1991 and 1992, with some aesthetic mechanical changes between 1995 and 1996. Since then, a lot of time and effort has been put into the game by amateurs developing in their free time: features, areas, administration. This means that A. there will always be issues that need fixing and B. precedence and balance need to be considered with every change. We don't blow anything up without a tremendous amount of thought and planning because we don't really want to affect core gameplay (hence "Vampire Wars Classic"), and we still get things wrong (like elites).Palmer wrote:...This thinking is outdated, and archaic...
...Why not throw in some super stances? Catch up to the times!...
...It's 11/11/2011 people... Give us 2handers...
...They haven't been changed what so ever since like 1992. I think this is time for a change...
You're playing an outdated, archaic game that players still find fun and we still like to improve. If you want to be a **** and arbitrarily attempt to manipulate this into a text-based World of Warcraft rather than suggest reasonable, relevant ideas with the understanding that admin do the best we can, you can just shut up and get the **** out, because we don't need you here.
Also, superstances and 2-handed weapons aren't catching up to the times. They're catching up to 1998. They've obviously been discussed, and were considered either inappropriate or not a priority.
Re: Things that are still missing from the mud
Let me start by saying I'm out of the loop on a lot of things. I owe Helmut an apology. He has sent countless admin emails asking for feedback and I've kept my mouth shut for for several reasons. I'm out of the loop and to be honest sometimes I just haven't had time.
There are lots of reasons I don't care about certain players. (And for the the "innocent bystander" reading this - get the **** off of your high horse. Admin are humans and quite frankly I don't have to like everybody. I try to treat people fairly til they deserve otherwise) I think D hit this squarely on the head:
I'm not actively involved in **** but my main 2 jobs used to be: A) ******* (this is necessary sometimes, especially based on some of the player types we've had to deal with) Enforcer type dude and B) Idea-man/Quality Control. I don't have the time to be the ******* anymore, but I'll make a concerted effort to help Helmut. Most of what was brought up has been discussed and rediscussed over the years. There are a variety of reasons that some things haven't changed. I can't say I disagree with you on all (or hell, even most) of it - but your pissy attitude strikes me the same way it struck Daitja.
Anyways, Happy Turkey Day to those who celebrate. May the Lions beat the Pack so bad they go into a 4 game losing streak.....

I'm on Facebook - I just don't ******* need 8 jillion ******* alerts over pointless Bullshit. I don't need people I don't know have more access to me than they already have (I'm sure any half assed web-addict can find out plenty, but most of the stalkers are gone from VW - but why risk it). Everything that's with the mud should be here on the forums. Or for God's ******* sakes - the vw_support email which is looked at as well.daitja wrote:I'm not on Facebook.
