Explanation of the Score Screen
On this page, you will learn what the different parts of the score screen mean.
To do this properly, we need is an example of a score screen. You can get this screen
by typing "score" - here is the score screen of a player called Mischief.
You are Mischief The Mischievous, 97 years old (160 hours).
This character was created Wed Aug 28 12:55:48 1996
You have 3219/3219 hit, 1916/1916 mana, 1267/1267 movement, 0 primal energy.
You are carrying 22/35 items with weight 156/999 kg.
Str: 25 Int: 24 Wis: 21 Dex:21 Con: 23.
Your beast is at 0.
You have scored 1377 exp, and have 435673 gold coins in hand,
and 77892 in the bank.
Autoexit: yes. Autoloot: no Autosac: no.
Wimpy set to 0 hit points.
You are standing.
AC: -535. You are ultimately armored!
Hitroll: 162. Damroll: 147. Blood: 80.
Alignment: 1000. You are angelic.
Status: 4 You are an Immortal.
You have killed 4 players and have been killed by 2 players.
You have killed 4954 mobs and have been killed by no mobs.
You have 854 quest points.
The first two lines of this are fairly self explanatory :
You are Mischief The Mischievous, 97 years old (160 hours).
This character was created Wed Aug 28 12:55:48 1996
This means that this character is "Mischief" and his title is "the
Mischievous", who is 97 years old MUD time (160 hours real time). The second line
just tells you at what time and date the character was created. If you want to change your
title, you can do this by using the syntax [title] [message], so Mischief has used the
syntax [title the Mischievous].
The next line :
You have 3219/3219 hit, 1916/1916 mana, 1267/1267 movement, 0 primal energy.
tells you about some of your statistics. 3219/3219 hit means that I have 3219 hit
points left out of a total of 3219. This can be equated to your health status - when
someone hits you, they take off a certain amount of hit points. The harder they hit
you, the more damage you take, the more your hit points go down. Mana is used to determine
how good you are at spells. For an explanation of spells, see the Spells
FAQ page. Move is used for various things - if you are a lower level
than avatar (ie a mortal) then every time you move in a different direction, your move
goes down a little. So, the higher your move, the less you have to stop and wait for
yourself to get your breath back. Primal energy is explained in the Questing
FAQ.
Here is a chart so you can tell how much damage you have done to your opponent :
If you missed, then you did 0 points of damage.
If you lightly hit, then you did 1 to 4 points of damage.
If you hit, then you did 5 to 10 points of damage.
If you hit hard, then you did 11 to 20 points of damage.
If you hit very hard, then you did 32 to 40 points of damage.
If you hit extremely hard, then you did 41 to 99 points of damage.
If you hit incredably hard, then you did 100 or more points of damage.
You can get this information again by typing "help damage" within the game.
The next line :
You are carrying 22/35 items with weight 156/999 kg.
tells you how many items you are carrying out of the maximum you can carry. Mischief is
carrying 22 our of a maximum of 35 items. Each item weighs a certain amount though, so you
have a maximum weight that you can carry as well - Mischief is carrying 156 out of 999
possible kg.
The next line :
Str: 25 Int: 24 Wis: 21 Dex:21 Con: 23.
gives you information on other attributes of your character. Here is what they all mean:
- Str stands for strength which determines how much weight you can carry and
(to a certain extent) how much damage you do when you hit someone.
- Int stands for intelligence determines how quickly you can get skills or
spells to 100% when you practise them, and combined with wisdom, determines how resistant
to the vampire power command.
- Wis stands for wisdom, and combined with intelligence, determines how
resistance to the vampire power command you are.
- Dex stands for dexterity and determines how good you are at dodging
someone else's attack.
- Con stands for constitution and contributes to how much damage you take
during combat, and determines how much your hp, mana and move go up per tick when in human form (for information about ticks
see the relevant page)
The next line :
Your beast is at 0.
shows what your beast is at. Your beast only affects you when in vampire form.
If it is at 0, then it means that you are immune to sunlight, and won't smolder during the
day. This enables you walk around as a vampire all the time, which is quite useful.
However, if it gets to 100, you will become savage and violent, so when taken down to 10%
of your hit points, you go into a huge rage, doing around 100 attacks in one round! Your
beast goes up if you do aggressive things, such as backstab people/mobs, cast gas,
and various other things. It is up to you to find out which things make it go up though.
Your beast goes down in only one way - you have to cast heal on a mob many many
times. It can take hours to get your beast down to 0. The best way to do this is by going
to the healer in Midgaard, as he doesn't move around, and it is a safe room, so you can't
be attacked and killed. However, you do leave yourself open to being charmed, but then
I'll leave that for you to find out.
The next two lines :
You have scored 1377 exp, and have 435673 gold coins in hand,
and 77892 in the bank.
Tell you how many experience points you have (exp), and how much gold yuo have in the
bank and on you. Experience points are explained on the General
FAQ page under the headings "What are
experience points?" and "How do I use
experience points?". Gold is used for one of two things - buying things from shop
keepers, or giving to other, mercenary, players to get things for you. You can sell things
to get money, or sacrifice them. The higher the value of the item you are sacrificing, the
more money you get for it, to a maximum of 250 gold, but when selling items, there is a
maximum of 2,000 gold. The shopkeeper, however, may not be interested in buying it from
you, but then you'll find that out.
Now onto the next line :
Autoexit: yes. Autoloot: no. Autosac: no.
These options do different things for you automatically.
- Autoexit is activated by typing autoexit and tells you all obvious exits
from a room at the top of the description. This saves you having to type exits to
tell you where you can go.
- Autoloot is activated by typing autoloot and automatically gets everything
from a corpse when you kill a mob/player. This can sometimes be awkward, because you may
already be carrying the maximum weight or number of items you can carry.
- Autosac is activated by typing autosac and automatically sacrifices a
corpse after you have killed a mob/player. This, again, can sometimes be awkward, because
if you need something off of a corpse, and forget that you have autosac on, it loses the
item in the corpse when you sacrifice it. It is good, however, because you get all
available gold for sacrificing corpses, and you leave the MUD nice and tidy.
With the next two lines :
Wimpy set to 0 hit points.
You are standing.
you are told two things. The latter piece of information, "You are standing."
just tells me that I am standing. You can be in different positions, ie asleep, resting,
etc. Wimpy is a feature that lets you automatically flee if you get down to a certain
level of hit points. Mischief's wimpy is set to 0, so it means that he will never flee. If
you had 1000 hit points, and wanted to make sure that you never got killed, you would set
your wimpy to 500, by typing wimpy 500, ensuring that whenever you dropped to 500
or less hit points, you would attempt to flee. The higher the wimpy level, the more wimpy
you are.
The next line tells us about armour class :
AC: -535. You are ultimately armored!
AC stands for Armour Class (or armor class, if you're american :-), and
represents how tough you are. The lower your ac, the more chance you have of
parrying someone's attack, therefore not taking any damage. Also, if you are hit, the
lower your ac, the less damage you will take. You can decrease this value by getting
better armour, or spending quest points - see the Questing FAQ.
The comment to the right of your ac is just a comment - if you have, for instance, 0 ac,
then it will say "You are naked.".
The next line tells you several things :
Hitroll: 162. Damroll: 147. Blood: 50.
These values are quite simple to explain. Hitroll is how likely you are to hit
someone, and Damroll is representative of how much damage you will do to someone if
you do hit them - for both, the higher the better. To get these values up, you need
to find equipment and weapons that you are skilled at using, but also you need to find
equipment and weapons that put a plus value onto either your hit or dam roll. You can also
increase them by spending quest points on them. Again, see the Questing
FAQ to find out more information about quest points. The blood value is how much blood
you have, out of a maximum value of 100. The blood bit will only show up if you are in
vampire form. Vampires need blood to use their clan disciplines,
for the regenerate power, and to stay alive. You can increase this by drinking blood from
various sources, either blood from kills, blood springs, or quested items which are blood
sources.
The next line :
Alignment: 1000. You are angelic.
Tells you what alignment you are. The value can be from -1000 to +1000. Certain
equipment can only be used by players of a certain alignment, so choose carefully which
alignment you want to use. You can only change this value when you are a mortal,
which you can do in two ways. Either type "align" followed by good, neutral,
or evil which will set your alignment value to 1000, 0 or -1000 respectively. Also, if
when you kill mobs, your alignment goes up or down according to the alignment of the mob,
but this only happens when you are at mortal level. The comment to the side is just a
comment, and varies with different alignments. If you had an alignment of -1000, it would
say "You are satanic.", which is the lowest you can go. Ask which alignment is
best, and you will get different answers, but it does determine what sort of equipment you
can have.
This line is really the last complicated one :
Status: 4. You are an Immortal.
and is explained in the status information page.
The next two lines are fairly self-explanatory :
You have killed 4 players and have been killed by 2 players.
You have killed 4954 mobs and have been killed by no mobs.
They are in fact, completely self explanatory. For more of these statistics for all the
players on the MUD, have a look at the league table. At the time
of writing, Mischief is number 18 out of 527, with a grand total of 14954! That will most
probably change very soon though.
The last line :
You have 854 quest points.
Can be explained by looking at, yet again, the Questing FAQ,
that wonderful document written by Tokugawa.
